The series so far has seen a fluctuation between the both teams, as one good performance hasn’t been able to carry out later on, and that resulted not only giving away the battle but also dipped the performance of players dramatically from one test, after, the other.
While the good thing is that, after the dramatic performance, both teams stood tall to comprehend the previous sloppiness. Although it won't say the true story, that the rise in standards is mostly capitalized on the dip in standards of another team.
In the meantime, there were few contests to tackle for the players, for a span of time, but the inability to keep the intensity throughout is an area where the Series lacked. Anyways that allowed the series to fluctuate between the teams, as it made teams to strive hard for any given opportunity presented to them.
Now coming to the present, the lead is in England’s hand, to take away their way as they have two options, to clinch first ever Series win against South Africa at home after the redemption. On the other hand, South Africa have an only option I,e to win to keep their record in their way.
England
The hosts are mighty happy after what happened at Oval, as they seemed to have ticked all the boxes needed not only with aggression but also with temperament. As debutants showed courage and the experienced one's showed character in that big win.
South Africa
While the visitors hardly ticked half boxes, as they unable to find any sort of momentum after the first Innings. And injury prone to their best player as felt quite a bit throughout the match, but the big issue is, the inconsistency of experienced batsman.
Pitch and Conditions
The pitch at Old Trafford as produced results in most games and England have won five in the last six games played there. While it has been batsman friendly in early days and in later days spin played a big part, but the Conditions seems Unlikely to favor spin as odd showers and overcast conditions prevailing for seamers over the course of the test match.
Team News
England unlikely to change the team for the final match as the overcast conditions loomed up Manchester over the week and to follow over the march. It means they will stick with eight batsman theory, to tackle the conditions on offer.
Possible XI: 1 Alastair Cook, 2 Keaton Jennings, 3 Tom Westley, 4 Joe Root (capt), 5 Dawid Malan, 6 Ben Stokes, 7 Jonny Bairstow (wk), 8 Moeen Ali, 9 Toby Roland-Jones, 10 Stuart Broad, 11 James Anderson
While South Africa's team combination all gonna depend on Philander fitness on the day of the match, if he isn't available for selection, the team management might bring in extra batsman at the expense of Morris.
Possible XI: 1 Dean Elgar, 2 Heino Kuhn, 3 Hashim Amla, 4 Quinton de Kock (wk), 5 Faf du Plessis, 6 Temba Bavuma, 7 Vernon Philander/ Duanne Olivier, 8 Chris Morris/ Theunis De Bruyn, 9 Keshav Maharaj, 10 Kagiso Rabada, 11 Morne Morkel
At the end it all gonna boils out on how bowlers from either side exploit the advantage more and how batsman tackles them, lies the result of the match, if rain assists time, for a result of the match.
